Picaro Restaurant offers Latin inspired food with local ingredients and flavours. They wanted an identity that could represent the cuisine in a fun way, that correlated with the atmosphere and culture. Before we touched our computers, we went straight to draft a hand-drawn image of the word. We then translated it on-screen to refine further. This allowed us to customize the lettering in an inviting way while understanding how the logo would look in different contexts. The colours themselves were chosen in collaboration with the interior designer, to compliment the restaurants décor and ensure consistency across all environments.
This identity evolved into a visual system with the design of several “rogue” animals in place of a static icon. The art style of the animals was inspired by Latin stained-glass art. Often in buildings such as churches, beautiful glass pieces exist portraying those of higher power. These subjects have a circle (halo) behind their heads to show importance.
